About Me
Healthcare innovation demands more than clinical experience – it demands a broader holistic view.
Paramedic, Health System Tinkerer, and Developer
I'm Matt, a registered paramedic and software developer based in Boorloo (Perth, Western Australia). Across my career I've been passionate about making things better, whether it be delivering the best possible pre-hospital care, reshaping the built environment, or building new tools to manage a workforce of thousands.
I am a Registered Paramedic and system improvement specialist with a career spanning clinical practice, operational leadership, digital health innovation, and corporate management. Early in my journey, I built skills across technology, events, logistics, and organisational strategy — experience that now informs my approach to sustainable change in healthcare.
I work at the intersection of frontline care and system transformation, leading projects that support clinicians, strengthen patient outcomes, and deliver resilient, scalable solutions.
Current Role
As Clinical Digital Specialist at St John WA, I lead the integration of clinical governance, digital health systems, and cardiac monitoring technologies to support over 5,000 clinicians across Western Australia. I ensure clinical teams are equipped with effective tools that enhance patient care, streamline operations, and align with best practice prehospital standards.
Key areas include:
- Clinical Practice Guidelines: Overseeing governance, digital delivery, and updates
- Electronic Patient Care Record (ePCR): Acting as clinical lead and system owner
- Cardiac Monitoring Technologies: Leading system configuration for Corpuls devices
- AED Data Retrieval: Supporting hospital-based post-resuscitation care
The Journey Here
My path to healthcare wasn't traditional. I started in IT and facilities management, working with organisations like the University of Western Australia and Commonwealth Bank. This diverse background taught me how systems work, how to manage complex projects, and most importantly, how to bridge the gap between technical teams and end users.
When I transitioned into paramedicine, I brought this systems thinking with me. As an Ambulance Paramedic responding to emergencies across Perth's 2.6 million square kilometres, I saw firsthand how the right technology could enhance patient care – and how the wrong implementation could hinder it.
What Drives Me
My leadership style is grounded in authenticity, strategic foresight, and a practical mindset shaped by working across industries. I believe sustainable innovation in healthcare requires technical expertise, respect for the people on the frontline, and the courage to think beyond traditional boundaries.
Every day, my aim is to build stronger systems, support better care, and lead meaningful change for our clinicians and patients.
Beyond Work
When I'm not working at the intersection of healthcare and technology, you'll find me volunteering at Perth Zoo as a Docent in training, exploring Western Australia's incredible landscapes with my camera, discovering new restaurants, or tinkering with new technologies that might solve tomorrow's problems.
